Axiom honoured as one of the region’s unsung heroes
AXIOM Engineering Associates have been honoured for its contribution to the regional economy and the leading role it plays in championing Teesside’s engineering expertise. A global leader in mechanical and materials engineering, received the accolade for its service to the business community at the Mayor’s Civic Awards ceremony organised by Stockton Borough Council.
Now in their sixth year, the Civic Awards highlight individuals and organisations that set an inspiring example to others through their effort and determination.
AXIOM, which is based in Bowesfield Crescent, Stockton, won the prestigious award for its work in helping to establish the Tees Engineering Network (TEN), which flies the flag for the regional supply chain.
TEN was set up four years ago by AXIOM director Rob Johnson who got together with Jamie Brown, CEO of Francis Brown, along with IMH and Nortech, to found a network that would champion supply chain SMEs in the Tees Valley.
TEN hosts guest speakers from major companies and highlights the area’s engineering expertise available to them. Members say TEN has become an invaluable tool for developing new business opportunities and retaining much-needed work in the area. Recent speakers have included British Steel and Sembcorp Utilities.
Rob explained: “There used to be several regional engineering forums in the area, but they all disappeared during the economic downturn. I felt we needed something on Teesside that allowed local companies to bid for contracts and let larger companies know what the area had to offer.”
The award citation also lauded Axiom’s work with local schools and its recruitment policy which has seen graduates from Teesside University joining the company.
Stockton’s Mayor, councillor Ken Dixon, presented AXIOM director Adam Potter with the award during the council’s annual meeting at Billingham Forum recently.
He said: “Every day across the Borough there are ordinary people doing extraordinary things. We are very lucky to have such a strong community spirit in Stockton-on-Tees and it’s something we should never take for granted.
“It was a pleasure and a privilege to recognise these truly remarkable people, who contribute so much, and to say a huge thank you on behalf of the residents of our wonderful Borough.”
