Macmillan Coffee Morning Success
Preparations were underway last week as AXIOM prepared to take part in a key event in their fundraising calendar.
The world’s biggest coffee morning, which this year took place on Friday 29th September, is Macmillan Cancer Support’s largest event where participants are encouraged to meet up and have a coffee and donate the cost of their drink to Macmillan. From humble beginnings in 1990 where this took place locally, the event became so successful that it was launched on a national basis resulting in £165.5 million being raised in aid of Macmillan.
This year, AXIOM were delighted to take part with staff challenged to provide an array of homemade cakes from chocolate brownies to red velvet fairy cakes. Guests with a more savoury tooth were also treated to lovingly baked cheese scones and sausage rolls. The enthusiastic bakers also ensured that those with dietary requirements were able to sample more healthy, reduced sugar and gluten free delights including stem ginger biscuits and sweet potato crisps.
With the grand total still to be confirmed as staff continue to provide donations, it is estimated so far that in excess of £110.00 has been raised for the charity.
Rob Johnson, Director and Principal Mechanical Engineer said, “AXIOM were only too pleased to lend its support to such a worthy cause. As usual, our staff rose to the challenge and were committed to raising as many funds as possible. It was a thoroughly enjoyable day and has set ourselves a new challenge for next year’s event, to improve further on the total donations made to Macmillan.”
